As Chief Investment Officer, John leads the Stonebridge Investment Team in managing the Equity and Fixed Income Investment Strategies over $2 billion in assets under management. With almost four decades of industry experience, he has accumulated extensive expertise in equity investment, options trading, and fund management, portfolio construction, research, and fundamental analysis.
As a CFA® charter holder and portfolio manager, John has refined our firm’s investment philosophy and implementation of a disciplined approach to investing in developing customized portfolios. Prioritizing long-term financial success for clients, he works directly with the firm’s portfolio managers, research analysts, and Chief Economist to assess methodologies and introduce ideas for helping meet client goals. As an owner of Stonebridge, John’s reputable leadership and professional mentorship guides our diverse team of innovative leaders to help fulfill his futuristic goal for the company: “to remain a stand-alone, investment firm for generations to come.”
Prior to Stonebridge, John led the Large Cap. Growth Team and managed $2 billion market mutual hedge fund at American Express, and served as a Senior Equity Portfolio Manager at Piper Capital Management. During his time as the Head of Equities and a Senior Portfolio Manager at Columbia Management, he created and brought the Columbia Premium Technology Fund to market – a closed-end equity fund with an option overlay strategy. His work resulted in a patent on rules-based risk management in 2009, which later influenced his creation of Stonebridge’s proprietary mutual fund in October 2013: The Covered Bridge Fund.
John holds a Bachelor of Science in Finance from the University of Nebraska-Lincoln and a CFA designation from the Chartered Financial Analyst® program. He is a member of the Chartered Financial Analyst Society of MN and is a Treasurer on the Board of Directors for Goodwill-Easter Seals of MN Foundation. Having a large, fun-loving family, John is a proud husband, father, and recent grandfather! He enjoys traveling, playing golf, and improving his secret talent as an expert handyman!
